ICAN rules state that domain names must be registered for at least 60 days before you are allowed to transfer them. However, domain name registrars like GoDaddy will allow you to transfer domain names if they have the domain in their network.Let's start with some concepts. A registrar is a company that you register a domain through. They almost always have a control panel that you can log in to. If you forget your login information, you should be able to call them at the phone number. Transferring your domain name generally involves moving from one registrar.
Remember that your domain name may be different from your web hosting. A web host (or webserver) is similar to a house. A domain name is similar to a phone number. It is possible to move houses while keeping the same phone number. You can also change your phone number while staying in the same house. The same applies to domain names and web hosting. Each registrar has its own way of asking for a domain to be transferred. The person who is currently the owner of the domain must first log into their control panel to ensure that the domain isn't locked. Next, the person who will receive the domain should go to their control panel to follow their registrar's instructions to request that the domain is transferred to them.
The procedure may change at this point. Both registrars will likely send several emails to the requestor as well as the old owner. Both the old and new owners must follow the instructions in an efficient manner. Instructions vary from one domain registrar.Another situation that you may encounter is when you transfer owners but both owners use one registrar. There is likely to be a method within the control panel for transferring ownership. This is likely to be a totally different option than the first scenario, in which the parties have different registrars. For more information, contact your registrar.
